The Oriental Shorthair is a breed of domestic cat that is developed from and closely related to the Siamese cat. Siamese and Oriental belong to the same breed group, which is called Eastern. It is likely that ancient Egyptian cats were her predecessors. This is confirmed by archaeological finds made at the beginning of the 20th century. Then they found a huge number of mummified animals similar to the modern Siamese cat.
In the ancient manuscripts of Thailand, images and descriptions were found not only of cats with a Siamese color, but also completely colored short-haired graceful cats. The first image of a Siamese cat was found in one of the manuscripts of the ancient city of Ayutthaya, the capital of Siam, from 1350 to 1767.
The modern look of Siamese and Oriental cats is very different from the previous ones. Now these cats look more sophisticated, lengthening of all lines is welcomed. Particular attention is paid to the harmony of forms. Distinctive features of the breed are: thin skeleton; long, straight tail without kinks; large, wide-set ears, forming a narrow wedge in combination with the muzzle; straight profile; fine, tight-fitting coat; complete absence of undercoat and almond-shaped eyes. Ideally, this is a lithe, muscular, miniature cat, slender, with long, delicate lines.
Oriental cats have a magical personality. They are very smart, independent in making decisions and at the same time very dependent on the person. They suffer greatly from lack of human attention. No matter how many cats of this breed live in the same territory, and no matter how fun they are together: if the owner is not at home, they will be very worried about his absence. Orientals are social, intelligent, and many are rather vocal. They often remain playful into adulthood, with many enjoying playing fetch.
